New Highs at DECA Regionals

On Sunday, November 27, Greenwood’s DECA Chapter competed in the DECA Regionals competition. DECA is a written and oral business case competition. Students compete individually or in pairs in specific categories that range from Marketing categories, such as Sports and Entertainment Marketing, to Finance, such as Accounting Applications.

Our DECA chapter is led by a group of student Executives: Julia Morris ‘24 (Chapter President); Joseph Bailey ‘23; Sam Katz ‘23; Jamie Kaul ‘23; Curtis Li ‘23; and James Lu ‘23. 74 Grade 9–12 Greenwood students travelled to Sinclair Secondary School in Whitby to compete against thousands of students from around the GTA. Our DECA team trained twice a week since the start of the school year to prepare. At the regionals, students only had minutes to read a case study and prepare a solution which they then presented to a judge, who provided them with a score. 

This was an historic year for Greenwood's DECA Chapter, marking both the highest turnout in our school's history at 74 students and a record 19 students qualifying for DECA's Ontario Provincials event in February 2023. Few students reach the high bar necessary to receive a DECA Provincials invitation. A special shoutout to our exemplary team of student Executives, listed above, who have remarkably maintained a 100% DECA Provincials qualification rate over their years at Greenwood.
