Venturing Further: Grade 12 Profiles

Allan Hardy, Principal
Our Grade 12 students are tangible evidence of this growth. They have worked hard during their time at Greenwood and are now on the verge of realizing an array of ambitious postsecondary goals. To date, all members of this year’s Leaving Class have received a postsecondary offer. Throughout the spring we would like to share some of their stories, as one way of letting the Greenwood community know how proud we are of them.

Here are three examples of some remarkable accomplishments.

Olivia Pestrin

Olivia is the first Greenwood student to gain acceptance to a direct-entry medical program in the UK. Olivia decided to pursue this path in Grade 11 and worked diligently throughout the summer and fall to prepare to write the UK version of the MCATS. She earned offers of admission from Bristol, St. George’s, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and St. Andrew’s, and will likely attend St. Andrew’s this fall.

Rachel Aber

Rachel was Greenwood’s nominee for the prestigious Chancellor’s Scholarship at Queen’s University, which recognizes superior academic ability, creative and original thinking and proven leadership qualities. Rachel made it to the second round of candidates under consideration for this award, which is a great achievement. Rachel plans on pursuing a medical degree at Queen’s, Western or McMaster.

Brendan Kellam

As a Greenwood co-op student last year, Brendan and another student developed an original app for skateboard enthusiasts. Brendan continues to pursue his interest in technology innovation and has applied to the very competitive software engineering program at Waterloo University. He has already gained acceptance to McGill’s engineering program. Brendan is also the first Greenwood student to be nominated for a Schulich Leader Scholarship, which supports students with a passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
