Debating in the Fulford League

Erin Taylor, Communications Officer
Greenwood’s Debate Club prepared their best arguments and headed to the Fulford League debate tournament on November 25. This was the first time Greenwood has debated as a part of the Fulford League, a highly competitive debating organization for Ontario independent schools.

At the Fulford tournament, they debated a highly topical resolution on artificial intelligence. The time spent researching and practicing their debating skills against one another in lunchtime meetings paid off; the whole team debated knowledgeably and confidently. Callum Stirton, one of the debate club’s student leaders, cinched 5th place in the Senior category — an impressive finish!

The debate club will be participating in two more Fulford tournaments this year, in January and April. They meet Tuesdays at lunch in Rm 252, and are happy to welcome new members.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
