Working Together in Challenge Morning

Erin Taylor, Communications Officer
On February 6, the Grades 7s and 8s took part in Challenge Morning, a series of community-building workshops and activities. Challenge Morning presents students with challenges to solve that require collaboration and interpersonal work.

The Grade 7s rotated between four kindness activities, designed to help them think about the importance of kindness in their social spheres. They learned about the science and psychology behind behaviours like showing gratitude and appreciation and giving compliments, then put those into practice through activities. They had a compliment circle, wrote letters of gratitude, and decorated keepsake boxes to show appreciation.

They also participated in a workshop on social media kindness. Teaching students appropriate, healthy ways to manage social media use is an ongoing priority, and workshops like this one present very important considerations.

Meanwhile, the Grade 8s teamed up in their Adviser groups to compete in a number of different challenges. They competed in tricky coding problems, math and rock wall challenges, and best of three GLO games. All the challenges required thinking outside the box and collaborating on creative solutions.

Through Challenge Morning, students got to approach challenges and community-building exercises, breaking out of their academic routines.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
