Spirit Week Wrap-up

Erin Taylor, Communications Officer
Students came back from the Family Day long weekend energized and ready for Spirit Week. The Student Council and Ms. Porter organized four jam-packed days of events for everyone to show their school spirit.

For Spirit Week, students participated in events and dressdown days to earn spirit points for their grade. The winning grade would earn an extra dressdown day, plus the bragging rights of taking home the spirit victory. Even the teachers joined in with a team of their own.

There were many things going on each day, and lots of opportunities to earn spirit points. Each day had a different dressdown theme. There was a pyjama day, and another for sports jerseys and concert t-shirts.Thursday, everyone wore their best “Groutfits,” decked out in grey from head to toe. The big finale was Multiples Day on Friday, where students and teachers dressed in identical outfits. Tying into our fundraiser for Out of the Cold, participants brought a dollar donation for every person in their multiples group. We raised $700 in just one morning!

In addition to the dressdowns, there were daily events, including dodgeball and Mario Kart tournaments and a school-wide Kahoot game. A Mystery Teacher competition and Pokemon hunt gave students chances to collect points all week long.

On Friday, it was time for the event everyone was waiting for: the Lip Sync Competition. All week, the teams had been filming and editing lip sync videos with some help from Mr. Brown and the advertising class. From "All Star" to "A Thousand Miles," there were some hilarious performances and great dance choreography! The teachers filmed a video too, recreating “You’re Welcome” from Moana.

In the end, the Grade 11s claimed victory and can look forward to their well-earned dressdown day. The Grade 12s took second, and the Grade 9s were third.

A spirited thank you to the Student Council and Ms. Porter for putting together such a fun roster of events, and keeping things running smoothly throughout the week.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
