Thank You Hamper Volunteers

By Jennifer Warrillow, Lisa Nemiroff and David “Lub” Latimer

From the feedback we have received from the schools and families, it is clear our participation in the Holiday Hamper program had an enormous impact. Here are some notes taken from thank you cards we received.

From a parent: There is nothing like the feeling of being empty handed on Christmas, of not being able to provide everything your child wants and deserves, it’s painful. This year you have spared me that and gave my son an amazing Christmas. There is not a card that exists that could thank you properly but I hope this comes close.”

From a parent: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being able to give [my son] more than I am able to. I know it’s not about things money can buy, but I wanted to give him a Christmas like other kids have so he could be happy and proud too”.

From Jim Stathopoulos, Principal at Sprucecourt Public School: We want to thank the families at Greenwood College for their generous donations during the holiday season. This act of kindness will go a long way to serve our twenty-two families during this time of year. I can truly tell you that all the families were appreciative and so thankful for your generosity.”

From Tanya Primaylon, teacher at St. Maria Goretti Catholic School: Our recipient families are so blessed to have strangers care enough and take the time to provide Christmas for our families. THANK YOU just does not seem to be enough! Know that you have made a difference in the lives of the children and parents here at St. Maria Goretti.”

We are so proud of our Greenwood community. Many of you were so incredibly generous during such a busy time of year. From the notes above it is clear that we made a significant difference to many children and their families celebrating the holidays. We look forward to continuing this very meaningful Greenwood tradition with you next year.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
