Greenwood’s Choir Performs at CISMF

“The whole weekend was a really powerful experience for all of the students and teachers involved. It is incredibly inspiring being around all of the conductors and committed, passionate students who have come together with the singular purpose of creating fabulous music.” - Mr. Morrison

Greenwood’s Senior Choir was among the 1400 students who performed at the Conference of Independent Schools Musical Festival (CISMF) at Roy Thomson Hall on Sunday, April 7. All of the students involved in CISMF had to create audition videos back in November, and the top musicians were selected to participate. This year, 15 of our students had successful auditions, which is the largest contingent of Greenwood students to ever participate in CISMF. “I could not be more proud of their accomplishment, and it serves as a testament to the performance character and grit demonstrated by our students,” said Mr. Morrison.

The repertoire was prepared in advance, and the performance came together over the course of rigorous rehearsal days. Students also had the opportunity to perform a final rehearsal with Colin Clarke, a highly regarded conductor and adjudicator. After many hours of practice and rehearsals, students performed Sunday afternoon at Roy Thomson Hall to a sold-out house.

“It's a remarkably unique experience for our students to perform a concert at Roy Thomson Hall and to work with a variety of skilled and inspiring music teachers from our CIS community,” said Mr. Morrison. “Playing or singing in a large ensemble comprising over a hundred musicians is like nothing else.”

A huge congratulations to our students for putting on an amazing performance and a special thank you to Mr. Morrison and Mr. Wright for making it all possible. Well done!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
