Greenwood Raises Over $22,000 for Inside Ride Fundraiser

Brought to the school by Izzy Walters ‘19, Inside Ride is a fundraiser that supports families and children with cancer. This event is produced by Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation and benefits numerous childhood cancer organizations whose programs include child and family support, financial support, and quality of life programs and research.

Inside Ride is a cycling event where participants dress in costume and compete for different awards. The planning team consisted of the Service Learning Committee, Student Grade Reps, and our Head Boy and Head Girl. Greenwood had a total of 20 teams; each team member had to raise at least $300 in order to participate.

The goal of this event was to raise $10,000, and the Greenwood community more than doubled it with a total of $22,491.75!

When event day came, students and staff were dressed in full costume and ready to put the pedal to the metal. Izzy Walters hosted the event along with two volunteers from Inside Ride. With several awards up for grabs, each rider pedaled their hardest and showed exceptional school spirit and amazing teamwork. Music was blasting, students were singing and dancing, teammates were cooling each other off and everyone was having a great time.

One team in particular really shone during this event: The Spice Ladies. This team dedicated their ride to their friend Emma Neagu, a young girl who passed away from cancer. Their team raised $8,797, with teammate Shannon Berry ‘21 raising $2,205. They were the top fundraisers at Greenwood and put their heart and soul into the event, with a picture of Emma on the face of their bike.

Once the cycling portion of the event concluded, everyone gathered for an awards ceremony. At the end of it all, everyone was a winner for raising such a large amount of money in support of a very important cause.

This was the first event of its kind hosted here at Greenwood and we hope to make it a tradition. It was an amazing showcase of school spirit, fundraising, and event planning.

Thank you to all those who participated and donated - it is greatly appreciated.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
