Stop Food Waste Day

Greenwood’s food provider, Chartwells, recently hosted a Stop Food Waste Day which encouraged the Greenwood community to help raise awareness about the global food waste crisis. Their mission was to engage students in a fun way that would help them reduce their food waste and teach them about this crisis.

Chartwells wrote about their mission:

“As the food service provider at Greenwood, we truly encourage everyone to help us raise awareness of the global food waste crisis. On April 24, we set up the signing board at our cafe and engaged with the students by hosting a trivia game and invited everyone to write down tips on how to reduce food waste. We received many lovely ideas and learned a lot of new methods to save waste.

“We used napkin dispensers as placeholders to communicate key messages about stopping food waste. We printed cue cards and engaged with students by hosting a trivia game. We also posted signs on the digital screens around the school.”

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
