Showing Off School Spirit

It was a perfect, sunny day filled with cheering, singing, dancing, and school spirit at Serena Gundy park on Friday, May 17.

Our morning at the park started off with a fun yet competitive House Cheer-Off. One at a time, each House made their way to the centre of the field and performed a choreographed cheer to win Spirit Day House points. Everyone gave it their, all but one House stood out with their chant, “The West wind blows where the West House goes.” West House took the win in the cheer-off category!

After getting pumped up from cheering, students participated in an Amazing Race rally. The goal of this race was to solve mystery boxes spread throughout the park to collect antidotes that would then lead them to the final box containing House points. Students raced to the finish line, but only one could win - and it was West House yet again!

After an exciting morning of Amazing Race, Houses met up for an intense game of tug-of-war.  Each House showed off their feats of strength but Wernham pulled through (literally) and won the tug-of-war championships.

As the day went on, students enjoyed lunch in the park and a carnival in the afternoon. Games, contests, crafts and an Ultimate Frisbee game were set up for students to enjoy. To cap off the day, Houses participated in a tire derby, an event inspired by a long-time Kilcoo tradition.

Every House showed outstanding school spirit!

There are still opportunities to gain points to win the House Cup, which will be awarded on June 14 at our Celebration Day.

Students have shown great pride and spirit this past year, making Spirit Day and every day here at Greenwood enjoyable.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
