Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year

Principal Sarah Bruce gave a warm welcome at the first assembly of the 2019-2020 school year. She began by thanking everyone for a great first day and introduced both new and returning staff as well as this year’s Head Boy and Head Girl, John Naprawa ‘20 and Leah Aspden ‘20.

Sarah reminded students that right now is an opportunity for a fresh start and to figure out what you want to accomplish throughout the year. Her key piece of advice is to take care of yourself, take care of the school and take care of each other. She expressed the importance of school values and encouraged everyone to be inclusive and empathetic towards one another.

In her closing remarks, she read a piece written by Mary Schmich called, “Everybody’s Free to Wear Sunscreen.” This piece talks about the challenges facing teens and how important it is to stay true to yourself and step out of your comfort zone.

Sarah hopes Greenwood’s four pillars of character will guide students in their endeavours and she is looking forward to another wonderful school year!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
