Another Spooktacular Halloween Week at Greenwood!

It was a spooktacular week at Greenwood! Halloween spirit was at an all-time high and we enjoyed every minute of it!

No Halloween is complete without the help of our Roundtable volunteers and their incredible decor. This year they outdid themselves with a scary carnival theme stage. It was a great way to kick-start to start our week and get everyone in the Halloween spirit!

Each day we had many fun activities planned by our Social Action Club. They started us off with a staff versus student pumpkin pie toss (or, as non-Halloweeners call it, a benchball game!) What began as a close game between the two teams, turned into an astoundingly dominant win by the staff. Congrats!

We also decorated Halloween cookies, watched The Nightmare Before Christmas at lunch, hosted a Halloween Food Drive House competition and more! The food drive was a huge success (see photo below) and we will announce the House who donated the most food in the coming weeks.

The day everyone was waiting for had arrived: Thursday, October 31. Greeted by our Grade 12 aliens, students and staff arrived at school dressed up in scary, funny and clever costumes. At break, everyone went to their House rooms to start the preliminary judging for our annual costume contest. There were awards for funniest costume, most original costume, best staff costume, and more. Once our finalists were chosen from each House, everyone gathered in the gym for the grand finale. Our panel of Roundtable volunteers judged each costume and announced the winners in front of the whole school. It was a tough day of decisions because there were so many outstanding outfits!

The competition ended, but the day wasn’t over yet! Our Grade 12s put on a haunted hallway in the basement during lunch. With creepy noises, cobwebs and clown faces, they did a great job at spooking our staff and students.

Now, you may think Halloween is over, but its not entirely done here yet! We have one competition still running: ‘Who the Boo’. Staff have been bringing in photos of themselves as kids dressed up for Halloween and everyone has to guess which staff member is in the photo. House points are still up for grabs!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
