Making an Impact for Out of the Cold Foundation

Greenwood hosted its 5th annual Project Impact campaign this December, which allowed students and staff to learn more about food scarcity, hunger and homelessness in Toronto and raise money for Out of the Cold Foundation. This year’s campaign included a combination of workshops, school-wide activities and a fundraiser in support of our yearly Out of the Cold Dinner.

As a fundraising initiative, we hosted a silent auction at the school from December 3-10 in support of Out of the Cold. Students and staff bid on several items including a signed Maple Leafs jersey, an array of gift baskets and a custom three-course meal for five students, courtesy of the Food and Culture class. The auction was very successful, raising over $1,500.

On Thursday, December 12, over 150 guests attended the Out of the Cold Dinner at St. Matthew’s United Church. Guests were served greek salad, roasted vegetables, broccoli-cheddar soup, grilled sausage, brownies and more. Many students and staff spent the day cooking and then spent the evening serving dinner.

Thank you to everyone who made this year’s Project Impact campaign highly successful.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
