Get to Know the Greenwood Student Council!

Written by: Leah Aspden, Head Girl
Greenwood's Student Council is a committee made up of student representatives from each Grade and is run by the Head Girl and Head Boy. Currently, we are in the midst of planning many grade events. We meet every Monday morning to discuss the week ahead, plan events, and bring forth concerns from the student body. Our main focus is grade cohesion and increasing student voice.

Earlier in the year, we had each of the Grade Reps plan an event -- whether it be a pizza lunch, grade kahoot, or game -- for the students in their grade to enjoy. Before the winter break, we had some Grade Reps plan a 'secret snowflake' gift exchange to get students in the holiday spirit.

On the more serious side, each grade is currently completing a summary of the town halls so that we, the Head Girl and Head Boy, can talk about the ideas and thoughts with administration. As a group, we hope to be more active in seeking out the wants and needs of the student body in order to bring them up with the school to create positive change within the Greenwood community.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
