Performing in Theatre

Written by Gabriel Browning Rodriguez ‘21
Recently, theatre has been a big part of my life, but for a while I never wanted any part of it. I was never confident that I would be able to remember lines or sing well, so I did not get involved for the first two years of my time at Greenwood.

It wasn’t until Grade 9 that I ventured out of my comfort zone and got more involved in the Arts. Since then, theatre (both in and outside of the school) has given me some of the best experiences I have ever had with acting.

Comic Potential, Greenwood’s upcoming Senior Play, is a perfect example of a great cast and crew coming together. Everyone I am working with puts so much effort into their roles that it makes me want to be better. Not only that, but this play is really funny, for all ages. It’s clever, heartwarming and a blast to perform. I'm almost certain that this will be one of the best play experiences I will have, and I'm so glad I went for it.

I’m excited to perform a play that feels very different from almost any other show Greenwood has done. My character, Adam, is a weird and antisocial character but he has such a clear fascination with films. It's a very interesting dynamic!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
