Using Cooking to Find Comfort

In our Grade 7 and 8 French classes the students looked at cooking as a way to find comfort and community during these strange and uneasy times.

The classes met in their respective kitchens via Google Meets and followed a set of French directions, led by their teacher.

Together, students measured, mixed, cooked and decorated traditional French crêpes. They used whatever delicious ingredients they wanted including chocolate, fruit and whipped cream. Before the students ate together, they were invited to take a nice photo of their creation to share with their teacher.

It was a fun way for them to learn new vocabulary as well as learn how to cook a traditional French meal. It’s no doubt their creations tasted as great as they looked!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
