Solving Problems One Case at a Time!

Six teams, one case - who will come up with the best solution for this year’s Business Case Competition?

Greenwood Business students were excited to compete in a case competition despite the school building being closed. This opportunity is always great for our students to enhance their skills in business and practice public speaking, even if it has to be done over Google Meets.

With over twenty students competing dispersed into six groups, teams received a university-level case competition that they only had a few hours to solve. This case was centered around a small convenience store chain in Southwestern Ontario called Little Short Stop. The students were tasked to come up with a solution on how Little Short Stop could best outrun its competitors while maintaining a steady flow of income.

After each group spent the morning reading the case and developing their presentation, they presented their solution to the panel of judges. This panel was composed of Greenwood alumni, parents and local business people.

To no surprise, many students used social media marketing and app development as their main solution. In today’s society, technology is a driving force in the success of many businesses and definitely a popular mode of communication amongst young people.

Every group did an incredible job, especially given the short amount of time they had to analyze the case. However, there was a tough decision to be made for our judges as they could only pick one winner…

This year’s Case Competition winners were Kate Morris ‘21, Maya Oberai ‘21, Olivia Shewfelt ‘21, and Paige Sproule ‘21. Congratulations to the winning team and to everyone who took part in the competition!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
