Brooke Robinson '16 Shares Her Experience Working at Q+ at Queen's University

Brooke Robinson ‘16 is a recent Queen’s Commerce graduate. During her time in university, she was one of two marketing directors for Q+.

Q+ is an organization that was designed to allow the LGBTQ+ communities at the Smith School of Business to flourish by providing a safe and inclusive space, promoting internal and external networking, mentorship and development opportunities.

Brooke got involved in Q+ because she wanted to find a community at Queen’s where it felt like she could be herself and be surrounded by people who were queer. “This was my favourite role because I could discuss all things queer with my team and we had a mutual understanding you couldn’t necessarily get from others outside Q+,” said Brooke.

At Q+ Brooke spent most of her time creating social media campaigns, developing content for social media platforms and helping with the creative needs of the Q+ events. They hosted events such as their annual conference, which brought together LGBTQ students and inclusive employers. This was a space where students could find job opportunities and connect with other queer individuals.

“If you are queer/an ally and going into the Commerce program at Queen’s, I highly recommend getting involved with Q+,” said Brooke.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
