Student Leaders Making an Impact in the Greenwood Community

We have been forced to rethink the way we do everything this year, including student leadership. Our Heads of Student Leadership, Liv Arbess and Stewie Bain, have played an integral role in what has been achieved thus far in the 2020-21 school year. With no in-person assemblies, our student leaders have pivoted to live streaming the morning announcements. The announcements have become Greenwood’s very own morning show, featuring Liv and Stewie (on alternating days) along with a rotating slate of guests from the Diversity Committee, Jack Chapter, House Captains, Student Council and more.
 
All of these student leaders are using their voice to have an impact on the student experience at the school. With the guidance of their staff advisers, these students are developing and promoting activities and opportunities for student involvement and positively affecting the tone of the school community -- not an easy task amid the challenges of COVID-19. 
 
One of the things I love about Greenwood is that leadership extends beyond our formal roles. I am constantly in awe of the initiative students demonstrate day to day. Whether they are taking an active role in their education, contributing to the community through extracurriculars, collaborating in the classroom or advocating for their needs, our students are developing valuable leadership skills. 
 
By respecting our mask wearing and distancing protocols, our graduating students are setting a valuable example for younger students. I know that the COVID safety protocols are wearing, but they are more important now than ever as the case count climbs in our city.
