Virtual WinterGreen a Huge Success Thanks to Community Support

The Roundtable’s WinterGreen Committee would like to extend a huge “thank you” and sense of gratitude to our Greenwood parents and alumni - WinterGreen 2020 was a huge success! Not only did it raise funds for school initiatives and community partners, but it also created new ways for us to connect with one another.

Sarah Bruce (Principal) and Jamie Lougheed (Executive Director, Advancement) are most determined to keep the Greenwood community connected during this strange time. In true Greenwood spirit, they challenged the Roundtable to find a way to continue the tradition of WinterGreen. We are proud to say: challenge accepted and mission accomplished!

The event’s success was made possible by:
  • eight co-chairs and two staff on the WinterGreen committee;
  • support from the Roundtable;
  • support from Grade Reps;
  • support from Greenwood Business Office;
  • support from Greenwood Communications Department;
  • 180 Greenwood families and alumni ordering swag and greenery; and
  • 28 parent volunteer drivers (many of whom brought their children along to help) delivering 134 swag bags and 78 greenery orders all over the city on December 5.
Wintergreen raised an incredible $17,700! These funds will be used by the Roundtable to support our students, staff, and community programs such as:
  • staff appreciation luncheons (three per year);
  • parent socials;
  • student programs such as Grade 9 Youth and Philanthropy Initiative; and
  • community organizations.
With the funds raised this year, we were able to provide Youth Without Shelter with a donation of $1,000 and our Holiday Hamper program with a donation of $1,600.

Through the generosity of all those who bid in the Wine Basket Silent Auction, we exceeded our goals and were able to support two additional families through the Holiday Hamper program.

We wanted to share these two notes of appreciation from a teacher and principal from a recipient school we support with Holiday Hampers:

I just CANNOT believe this generosity! The help that you are giving to our families during these difficult times is amazing! It fills my heart!"

Thank you on behalf of all of us - staff, students and families. We are so blessed to have you all in our lives!
 and

Thank you for thinking of our families as this money can go to help so many others. My principal Denise and I literally had tears in our eyes with this news. Thank you for this extra money!

Once again, a sincere thank you from the WinterGreen team! (Sabrina Barmak, Katherine Beattie, Jen Bell-Yantsulis, Karen Dutton, Courtney Fireman, Krista Monteith, Cassandra Reid, Lisa Sinclair and Tama Sirkis)

    Bravo to the courageous and determined WinterGreen team — adapting and ensuring the “tradition” continued in some form. My wreath, bulbs and greenery were fabulous!??

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
