Art for the Senses

When students walked through the main doors on May 16, they were greeted by beautiful displays of artwork created by their classmates. This was only the first of many Arts Week initiatives. Not only did students get a visual treat every time they walked through the halls, but they also had opportunities to create something before school and listen to musical performances during lunch.This celebration of art demonstrates the multifaceted approach Greenwood takes to nurture our students’ diverse strengths and interests.

On Tuesday and Thursday, Arts Everywhere! set up LEGO® and Play-doh creation stations before school to spark students’ imagination as they designed their creations. There was even an element of cooperation involved as students collaborated on LEGO® designs or worked together on their Play-doh sculpture. 

After a long hiatus, Greenwood Mic returned to a full in-person assembly on Wednesday during Community Time. The whole Greenwood community cheered on the student performers. Sydney Smith ‘22 and Hannah Hutzul ‘22, co-executives of the Arts Committee, hosted their final Greenwood Mic this school year and as always, there were puns galore. The two then passed the torch to next year’s Arts Committee executives, Sydney Peel ‘23 and Rhiannon O’Brien ‘23, who led the entire assembly through a sing-along rendition of Backstreet Boys’ I Want It That Way. 

Speaking of music, we capped off Arts Week with musical performances during lunch. Students got the opportunity to appreciate the smooth stylings from the Jazz Band while they ate their lunch. The lunchtime audience also heard the crew and pit band from our High School Musical shows perform select songs from the musical. 

We’re so glad to have such a lively array of activities and displays to spark Greenwood’s artistic spirit. Thank you to our Arts Committee for arranging this year’s Arts Week.
