March Break is around the corner!

You may have seen your child heading out the door with a suitcase, butterfly net or storage basket in place of their normal school bag yesterday and wondered what was going on. It’s Spirit Week at Greenwood, and Tuesday was “Anything But a Backpack” day. Obviously many of these containers are not terribly practical for everyday use, but it was fascinating to see the different items students brought in (including a vintage typewriter and carrying case!)

While Spirit Week is an opportunity for students and staff alike to show their Greenwood pride and enthusiasm, I love that each person can express their individuality and choose to participate in the ways that work for them. One student may put most of their energy into organizing their grade’s lip sync video; another student may put great care into finding outfits that perfectly match each day’s theme, or studying our “Who’s That Baby?” photos in order to match them to a grown-up staff member.

Above all, Spirit Week is a celebration of Greenwood and our shared commitment to making it a special place. I look forward to seeing what the rest of this week has in store as we head into a restful and restorative March Break!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
