Close to the Finish Line

The conclusion of a school year is not just a date on the calendar; it represents the culmination of our collective efforts and accomplishments. As we approach the end of another remarkable school year at Greenwood, we should take a moment to reflect on the journey we have embarked on together. This year has been filled with challenges, triumphs, and personal growth. Now, with the finish line in sight, it is important that we strive to finish strong.

As we navigate these final weeks that include our culminating activities, year-end celebrations (I’m looking forward to Spirit Day!) and final evaluations, I hope that students will remember the importance of seeking support when they need it: of leaning on their fellow students, seeking guidance from their teachers and drawing strength from the Greenwood community.  Finishing strong this year can help us to shape our  future success. Putting forth a strong effort until the end of the school year demonstrates our commitment to excellence and can have a positive impact on our personal growth and academic achievements.

For many students, their Outdoor Education experiences stretched their limits, and they embraced the discomfort of the unknown. I hope that students will think back to those experiences as they strive for excellence until the year ends. This can help set a powerful precedent for their future endeavours–they are capable and courageous! Of course, balancing this with self-compassion and self care is essential as students think of their long-term goals and make time for memories and fun.

Our graduating class is approaching a particularly poignant moment as they prepare to embark on a new chapter in their lives. I hope that they take pride in their accomplishments, knowing that their unique  journey at Greenwood has equipped them with the skills and knowledge to thrive in the world beyond these walls. I encourage them, too, to finish strong, leaving a lasting impact that inspires those who will follow in their footsteps.

Let’s embrace the final stretch with determination and a commitment to excellence. The end of the school year is an opportunity to showcase our collective growth, resilience and school spirit. Finish strong, Greenwood, and we will celebrate the incredible achievements that await at the finish line at Celebration Day and Graduation.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
