Spirit Day 2023

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
Greenwood’s annual Spirit Day is an opportunity for the school community to gather and compete in a series of fun activities. The day’s activities offer plenty of House points as the race to House Championships nears its end. Students first met at school in their Houses to put on their House face paints and practise their House cheers. After arriving at Serena Gundy Park, every House performed their House cheers and they were scored for spirit, cohesion, clarity and creativity by three judges.

After the House Cheer-off winner was announced, the eight Houses were split into two groups with four Houses each and then both groups competed in a Head-to-Head Relay and Hula Hoop Relay. Moving on from the two relay races, it was time for the Tug-of-War competition which was followed by lunch. The Grade 12 leaders hosted a fun fair after lunch with a bevy of fun activities for students to try out. The day finished off with an ultimate frisbee match and a tire derby.

Thank you to everyone for bringing their spirit and to our Grade 12 leaders and staff for organizing another wonderful Spirit Day!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
