The 12 Days of Fall Term

Kate Raven, Communications Manager
Here is a small sampling of what our community accomplished over the last four months, along with Principal Hardy’s remarks:
  • Our Grade 12s: This year’s Grade 12s got off to a great start at Kilcoo, and have kept up their spirit since. They have been tremendous role models for our younger students.
  • A Second Rink at Leaside Arena – 11 practices and games (so far!): The expanded Leaside Arena has been a fantastic addition to our athletics program. I hope those of you playing on our hockey teams have enjoyed practicing and competing in this new facility.
  • Kilcoo Camp – 10 Lub Times: Visits to the swamp and Trout Rock with Lub (David Latimer) are always a highlight of Kilcoo.
  • Coffee Houses – 9 great performances: We have had three coffee houses so far this year, and wonderful student performances at every one.
  • 185 quarter-zip sweatshirts sold: “The quarter-zip sweatshirts have been a great addition to the school uniform this year. Thank you to the Business Office and the School Store for their invaluable help in organizing this Student Council initiative.
  • Grade 7 Showcase: The Grade 7 Showcase, with the help of our Grade 7 students, allowed us to show prospective families some of the wonderful work our students have been doing this year.
  • Admissions Ambassadors – greeting prospective families at 6 events: Our prospective families tell us that our Student Ambassadors are an integral part of the admissions process. They sincerely appreciate having the chance to speak with you, and to learn what you love about Greenwood.
  • Project Impact – $5,000 raised: Does it get any better than this? Thank you to Micah Laskin, Evan Cole and Noah Flatt for their work in organizing Project Impact, to all of the students and staff who supported this program by buying a T-shirt or volunteering, and to Jen Chou in the Business Office who supported the students with the financial details of the project. The Out of the Cold program was overwhelmed by this timely and generous gift.
  • 4 CIS Champions (U14 Boys’ Volleyball, U16 Boys’ Volleyball, U20 Girls’ Soccer, Junior Girls’ Cross Country): This is the highest number of championships we’ve ever won in a fall term! With two Boys’ Volleyball championships, it’s also clear that our Boys’ Volleyball program has a bright future.
  • 3 new Vice-Principals: Heather Thomas, Kevin Way and Edwin Bryson have done an outstanding job in their roles this year. We’re very happy to have this strong team at work in the Main Office
  • Camp Rock – 420 tickets sold: This show had wonderful energy, and 420 people were treated to a great performance. Thank you to the cast and crew for your hard work on this production.
  • 1 great team: All of the amazing activities we do at Greenwood wouldn’t be possible without the leadership of our teachers and staff. Your hard work has helped to create all of these memorable moments.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
