Application Process

List of 4 items.

  • Step 1: Apply Online

When you access our online application portal, you’ll be prompted to generate a unique username; please keep this handy.

The online application requires you to fill out the following forms:
    • Application
    • Parent supplement
    • Student supplement
You’ll also need the following documents:
    • Recent photo of the applicant
    • Copy of birth certificate or passport
    • June 2022 report card
    • June 2023 report card
    • Most recent report cards (as they are received)
    • If any of the following applies to the student, please include the most recent documentation, including the student's assessment and Individual Education Plan (if applicable):
        • Student has an exceptionality relating to their learning (e.g., giftedness, learning difference, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
        • Student has been the subject of a psychological/educational assessment(s)
        • Student has an Individual Education Plan

Two Teacher Recommendation Forms must also be submitted as part of the application. One recommendation should come from a teacher who taught the student in 2022-2023, and the other should come from a current-year teacher. The first form should be delivered to the school as soon as possible after the date of application, and the second form by no later than mid-January 2024.

Note that an interview cannot be booked until the first of the two teacher recommendation forms has been received by Greenwood. This form is typically from the applicant's homeroom teacher from the previous school year.

Please only submit the documents requested above as part of your application. Additional documents will not be considered.
  • Step 2: Complete the Character Skills Snapshot

All Greenwood applicants must complete the Character Skills Snapshot (CSS) administered by the Enrollment Management Association (EMA). This online tool examines seven essential character qualities or “non-cognitive” attributes of individual students. Research shows that these qualities are the ones that independent schools feel are most important to nurture in their students. The CSS takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.

The fee for The Snapshot is $30 US when purchased at the same time as an SSAT.

For students not taking the SSAT, or registering for The Snapshot separately, the fee for The Snapshot is $60 US. EMA does not offer a discount or refund when the SSAT and Snapshot are purchased separately.

Be sure to select Greenwood as a school that should receive the results of your child’s CSS. Greenwood does not use SSAT results as part of its admissions process. Learn more about the CSS here.

Note that it will take some time for the results of the CSS to be available following completion.

Please note that an applicant family may not book an admissions interview until the applicant has completed the CSS.

At this time, Greenwood does not offer waiver codes for application fees, the Character Skills Snapshot, or financial assistance applications.
  • Step 3: Schedule an Interview

Once we have received a completed application (including the first of the two teacher recommendation forms) and the Character Skills Snapshot has been completed, the applicant family will be contacted by email to schedule an interview.

Interviews are designed to allow parents/guardians and students to learn more about Greenwood and to enable the Admissions Team to get to know you. A member of Greenwood’s Admissions Team will meet with the student and parent(s)/guardian(s) together and individually with the student. If the student wishes, they may bring an item of personal significance to assist in the discussion at the interview.
  • Step 4: Keep Getting to Know Us

Greenwood Admissions events give you the opportunity to get to know the students, teachers and parents/guardians who make up our tight-knit community. We encourage you to attend as many events as you feel would be helpful to you.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and as settlers, we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
