For Greenwood’s teachers, delivering the right mix of challenge and support starts with getting to know their students not only as learners, but as people.
Passionate, committed, knowledgeable, energetic and engaging, our teachers and staff have lived, taught and travelled widely around the world, and they bring their diverse backgrounds and life experiences to enrich life at Greenwood. Our student-focused approach ensures that students and teachers create the foundation for a strong rapport from the first day of school, and that these relationships are supported and strengthened over time.

We also recognize that teachers are learners, too, which is why Greenwood takes a job-embedded approach to professional development. The Greenwood Centre for Teaching and Learning provides our teachers with opportunities to gain skill in the specialized methodologies - such as authentic and ongoing assessment and new learning technologies - that are central to our mission.

All of our teachers are certified by the Ontario College of Teachers.

Our teachers also pull their experiences from around the world into classroom. Greenwood teachers have taught in countries including Costa Rica, China, the Dominican Republic, France, Italy, South Korea and the United Kingdom.

    Sam has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in history and biology. She started her career working at Pickering College before moving to Trafalgar Castle. She has spent the past few years working at MacLachlan College where she taught social studies and science. This year at Greenwood, she teaches Grade 8 CSS, Grade 10 history and Grade 12 law. She enjoys reading and being around water or scuba diving. She looks forward to providing more experiential learning opportunities at the school.

    Jessica has a B.A. (Honours) in Geography and Environmental Studies from Guelph University and a B.Ed. from Lakehead University. She began her teaching career at Greenwood as an Educational Intern in 2004 and joined the Student Success Centre team in December of the same year. During her time at Greenwood she has worked in the Student Success Centre, taught senior-level geography and world studies courses and continues to work with the Admissions team. Jessica’s experience extends to outdoor education, both as a program director at Camp Wabanaki in Huntsville and in developing and presenting interpretive programs for children at Balsam Lake Provincial Park. She was a member of the Guelph University varsity track and field team, serving as an assistant coach in 2003. Jessica has coached Greenwood runners on both the cross-country and track and field teams
    and has obtained certification as a coach through the National Coaching Certification program. She thoroughly enjoys her role as a coordinator for the Host and Ambassador team and as a teacher-adviser.

    Bio
     
    Sam was raised in Scotland, and he earned his B.Ed. (Honours) in Physical Education from the University of Edinburgh. Having moved to Canada in 2011, Sam has been at Greenwood since 2012 and has worked in both the Physical Education and Social Sciences departments. He has been heavily involved in both Outdoor Education and Athletics at Greenwood which are two of his primary passions. In his role as Vice Principal, Programs & Risk Management, Sam oversees Arts, Athletics, Outdoor Education, Service Learning and Student Life programming as well as being responsible for safety and risk management at the school.

    Prior to coming to Greenwood, Nick worked in the Advertising and Law sectors and obtained a Software Engineering Technician diploma from Centennial College and a BA from Carleton University. In his spare time, he is an avid sports fan and musician. As Greenwood's Help Desk Support Technician, he triages Help Desk requests from students, parents and teachers and connects them to the IT team, as well as assisting on various projects.

    Sarah teaches English and History at Greenwood; she is also the coordinator for the Writing Centre, which offers writing support to students. Sarah comes to Greenwood from St. Margaret’s School for Girls in Aberdeen, Scotland, where she taught for six years. She has also been an English and History teacher and curriculum writer at Ontario’s Virtual High School since 2008. Sarah started her teaching career teaching history at the National Ballet School of Canada; she then worked in various educational programs throughout the United States and Scotland including the Princeton University Writing Centre and the University of Aberdeen.

    Sarah earned her BAH and BEd from Queen’s University and her MA in History from the University of Toronto. When not teaching, Sarah loves to read, bake, and spend time with friends and family. She also enjoys photography and travel. Sarah is really excited to be back in Toronto and to be part of the Greenwood community!

    Anthony is a University of Toronto graduate from the Health and Physical Education program (2005). Since then he has also completed qualifications at OISE in the Physical Education Honour Specialist and special education. He has been a member of the Greenwood community for many years and has taught with the Health and Physical Education and the Canadian History teams from Grades 7-12. He has coached teams in various sports at Greenwood at both junior and senior levels, such as soccer, swimming, hockey, tennis and rugby, and has been recognized as the Central Toronto Town Crier Coach of the Year. He has also gained experience working for the Stephen Leacock Foundation "Leap into Literacy" Camp, creating and developing individualized programs with ESL students. Anthony is looking forward to continuing to contribute to the Greenwood community as Vice Principal, Student Support & Well-Being.

    Sarah Crump comes to Greenwood from Bishop Strachan School where she taught for 16 years. Over the course of that time, Sarah has gained years of classroom experience as a Math and Science teacher and as an advisory teacher. Previously, she worked as a supply teacher for the TDSB, was a full-time tutor on film sets and taught English in South Korea. Sarah holds a Master of Education from UofT, a Bachelor of Education degree from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Waterloo. She also has additional qualifications in mathematics, special education, guidance and school leadership. At Greenwood, Sarah will teach Grade 7 and 8 Science, be a Grade 7 Adviser and assist with other co-curricular activities. Sarah values continuous learning, developing deep community connections and spending quality time outdoors with her family.
