  • DIRECTOR, GRADE 7-8 PROGRAM

    The school seeks the services of a Director, Grade 7-8 Program with OCT certification beginning in September 2024. 

    Greenwood is a member of the OTPP and offers its teachers a competitive compensation package.  

    ROLE OF THE DIRECTOR, GRADE 7-8 PROGRAM:

    The Director, Grade 7-8 Program is responsible for overseeing the social, emotional, and individualized needs of students in these two grades. This person works collaboratively with other leaders at Greenwood to ensure the Grade 7-8 program supports the school’s strategic initiatives related to personalized learning, well-being, character, community, and belonging.

    Reports To: Vice-Principal, Student Support & Well-Being

    Specific Responsibilities
    • Foster a safe and caring environment; monitor and address matters that affect social and academic climate as well as student well-being in Grade 7 and 8
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to teachers in Grade 7 and 8, keeping personalized learning and individual needs in mind
    • Lead the daily functioning of aspects of the Grade 7 and 8 program, including: social concerns, behavioural concerns, student review and student discipline
    • Support the daily functioning of aspects of the Grade 7 and 8 program, including: classroom and student life programming, attendance, progress reports, final evaluations and the homework support centre
    • Work with the Director, Academics to: 
      • support scheduling and logistics for Grade 7 and 8 final evaluations
      • support the planning and execution of Integration Weeks
    • Work with teachers, Advisers, parents, school leaders and students when concerns about student learning or behaviour arise; implement contracts and supports as needed and keep the Vice-Principal, Student Support and Well-Being and/or the Director, Personalized Learning informed of these situations
    • Work with the Vice-Principal, Student Support & Well-Being and the Coordinator, Adviser Program to ensure the Grade 7 and 8 Adviser program is geared towards the personal growth of each student in terms of character development, learning skills and academics, including an effective transition program for students and their parents as they enter Greenwood in Grade 7 or 8, as well as from Grade 8 to 9
    • Work with the Director, Outdoor Education to ensure the Grade 7 and 8 Outdoor Education program is aligned to whole-person development and integrated into the curriculum
    • Work together with the Vice-Principal, Student Support & Well-Being, other school leaders, the school’s social worker(s), Advisers, and parents to support the well-being and mindfulness of students in Grade 7 and 8
    • Work with Grade 7 and 8 Student Success Centre Advisers to ensure Grade 7 and 8 teachers are meeting the needs of students with IEPs
    • Work with the Associate Director, Student Success Centre, the  Director, Personalized Learning and the Vice-Principal, Student Learning to make recommendations to the relevant parties regarding individual student learning needs (i.e. reach-ahead credits, customized student programs, etc.)
    • Provide support to teachers around meeting student needs and parent communication

        Qualifications and Personal Characteristics
        • Action oriented with a passion for co-education / all-gender education and knowledge of educational best practices
        • Leadership experience, OCT certification, Graduate level qualifications, and evidence of extensive professional development; PQP qualifications an asset
        • Strong presentation, technological and communication skills, including written reports, verbal communication and presentation skills 
        • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and parents
        • Demonstrated commitment to healthy school and workplace culture
        • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work effectively, manage a full workload and meet deadlines 
        • Exceptional organization and demonstrated leadership abilities 
        • Ability to lead and work collaboratively with a team, exemplary interpersonal skills
        • Demonstrated experience in programming to meet the academic and social needs of a diverse range of learners 
        • Thorough knowledge of academic and social demands on Grade 7 and 8 students
        • Demonstrated commitment to Greenwood’s mission of personalized learning and supporting and nurturing the development of the whole child 

        Release Time: 2 periods

        The Director, Grade 7-8 Program will be assigned 2 release periods to oversee discipline and support of Grade 7-8 students within the school. This appointment is for a 3-year term, which may be extended at the discretion of the school. The appointment is effective September 1, 2024.
