Each of our teachers invests personally in their students' success, applying their own considerable skills along with progressive teaching methods.
For Greenwood’s teachers, delivering the right mix of challenge and support starts with getting to know their students not only as learners, but as people.
Passionate, committed, knowledgeable, energetic and engaging, our teachers and staff have lived, taught and travelled widely around the world, and they bring their diverse backgrounds and life experiences to enrich life at Greenwood. Our student-focused approach ensures that students and teachers create the foundation for a strong rapport from the first day of school, and that these relationships are supported and strengthened over time.
Each of our teachers invests personally in their students' success, applying their own considerable skills along with progressive teaching methods. We also recognize that teachers are learners, too, which is why Greenwood takes a job-embedded approach to professional development. The Greenwood Centre for Teaching and Learning provides our teachers with opportunities to gain skill in the specialized methodologies - such as authentic and ongoing assessment and new learning technologies - that are central to our mission.
All of our teachers are certified by the Ontario College of Teachers.
"Every Greenwood teacher took the time to help me grow and learn, and ensured that I was prepared for university and the workplace."
Maddy Dinsdale ('13)
Our teachers also pull their experiences from around the world into classroom. Greenwood teachers have taught in countries including Costa Rica, China, the Dominican Republic, France, Italy, South Korea and the United Kingdom.

Emily's first career path started off in the lab - she worked in a clinical fertility lab as an Undergraduate Course Assistant at McGill during her undergraduate studies. In her final year of undergrad, Emily took a course on science education research where her mentor professor suggested that she look into pursuing a career in education. After completing her final year of undergrad to earn her Bachelor of Science, she would then move on to complete her Master of Teaching with qualifications to teach biology, chemistry, math and dance. This year, Emily will teach Grade 9 and 10 math and looks forward to being involved with the school’s co-curricular programming. Emily enjoys knitting, crocheting, hiking and cooking in her free time.
Heidi’s teaching embodies her belief that language learning is an essential way for students to be exposed to new perspectives and embrace positive challenges. This passion has led her to complete her M. Ed in Language and Literacy Education at OISE, in addition to a B.A. from Trent University with a joint major in French and English and a B.Ed from Queen’s University. During her studies, Heidi “ventured further” through a grant that allowed her to travel to Scandinavia and a year studying abroad in France, where she also taught ESL to high school students. She enjoys sharing her love of travel as a tool for expanding cultural knowledge with students by planning experiential learning trips to France and Québec City. In addition to her roles teaching English and French and leading the French Subject Team, Heidi coaches swimming and debate. Prior to coming to Greenwood, Heidi spent four years working at Sunrise Developmental Support Services in the Durham Region, where she facilitated a summer recreation program for adults with developmental disabilities. Outside of teaching, Heidi loves to read, swim, and spend time in nature.
Alexis (she/her) comes to Greenwood from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where she worked as a communications advisor for various hospital programs, participated on several EDI committees, and enjoyed leading special projects like the "Tell It To a 5th Grader" summer student research competition and an interactive installation for Nuit Blanche.
After an undergraduate English/Drama degree at Queen's University, Alexis obtained a teaching certificate from the University of Exeter and a Journalism Certificate from Centennial College. She worked in both industries before moving into communications.
Alexis looks forward to bringing her passion for communications and education together to help tell Greenwood's story.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
