Pathways to Careers

Kate Raven
On Tuesday, January 26, students had the opportunity to hear 38 professionals speak about their chosen fields. For many of these professionals, the road to their current career was not a straightforward one; their stories emphasized that there are many different paths that lead to finding your passion. The speakers, many of whom are Greenwood parents and alumni, came from fields as wide-ranging as industrial design, fashion, entrepreneurship, film, finance, medicine and more.

The theme for this year’s Careers Morning was Pathways to Careers and many speakers offered their advice for how students can find the field that “lights them up”.

“Focus on things you like and are good at,” said Mark Nashman, a Greenwood parent and president of MBN Capital Corporation. “Make sure you’re delivering value for whatever you’re doing.”

We were also fortunate enough to have five alumni speakers join us this year:
  • Evan Oberman (‘07), President, Business Cloud Inc.
  • Darcie Blair (‘08), Physiotherapy Resident, Altum Health
  • Jordan Casey (‘09), Law Student, Osgoode Hall Law School
  • Jessie Lewis (‘09), Law Student, Osgoode Hall Law School
  • Nick Tersigni (‘09), Paramedic, Toronto Paramedic Services

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
