Head Boy and Girl 2017

Liam and Olivia were elected by students and staff on April 24. A total of seven candidates - five boys and two girls - ran for these major leadership positions. Leading up to the election, the candidates made themselves available in the Lodge to answer questions from our school community, and each candidate made a poster outlining their platform for students to review.

The candidates delivered their final speeches on April 24, each highlighting a few initiatives they would like to implement if elected. The speakers’ dedication to Greenwood came through loud and clear in their presentations, and many candidates highlighted their commitment to preserving things they love about the school, including its close-knit community, supportive environment and leadership opportunities. Common themes for platforms included boosting school spirit, nurturing bonds between junior and senior students and providing more opportunities to highlight arts and athletics.

This year’s election also featured our first “virtual speech.” Olivia Kalles was unable to deliver her speech in person as she was participating in the March of the Living; however, she recorded her presentation prior to her departure so it could be screened for students and staff.

Head-Boy-Elect Liam spoke of his growth in his time at Greenwood and his desire to give back to the school in his speech. “Greenwood fits me perfectly,” he said. “In my last year at the school, I want to make sure Greenwood fits all of you.”

For Olivia, her motivation to be Head Girl came from her appreciation for Greenwood’s unique approach to education. “At other schools, they learn,” she said. “At Greenwood, we live, and through that we learn.”

Congratulations to all of our candidates for their wonderful campaigns and speeches!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
