Support the Integracare Moose

Located at the corner of Bayview and Moore Avenues, Integracare has a life-sized moose sculpture named Florence Moosengale on the front lawn. The moose has noteriety in the Leaside neighbourhood for her whimsical attire.

A class of Grade 9 Greenwood artists were tasked with designing and dressing 'Flo' on November 3rd. In October, Lee Grunberg, President and CEO of Integracare, visited the students to discuss the project.

The students decided to create 'an environment' for Flo, figuring that she must be lonely and require some animal friends! Last Friday the students, along with Ms. Petch and Mr. McFarlane, spent the afternoon outdoors creating an installation. Flo now has a large scale foamcore raccoon, deer, owl, fox and bear around her feet. As well, the students incorporated a 7 foot wooden Greenwood tree beside her and dressed her warmly in a green scart, fuzzy boots, floral earmuffs and a shirt. Flo is ready for the winter and will not be lonely.

Thank you to Graham Leishman, father of Annie (Grade 9) and Marshall (Grade 11) for his contribution and help with the project. Thank you also to the Grade 8 art students who assisted with finishing touches on the animals.

Flo will be dressed in her Greenwood attire for the month of November.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
