Greenwood has proudly supported UNICEF in the past, and wanted to continue this support through a fundraiser in December. The results were far beyond our expectations!
Before the fundraising began, students got together in their houses to discuss the goals that they wanted to direct their fundraising efforts towards. From purchasing birth registrations, to restocking emergency medical centres, to funding the construction of a well, the goals that students chose were ambitious.
From December 11 until December 21, the Water Cooler UNICEF fundraiser was in full swing, and a lot of house points were up for grabs. Water cooler jugs decorated by representatives from each house were set out prominently in front of reception. Students could contribute to their own house’s score by adding coins to their own house’s jug, or deduct points from other houses by dropping bills in theirs.
The competition was fierce, and students were motivated to reach the fundraising goals they set. At the end of the competition, the money was collected and divided to go towards all of the house goals. Students raised $2,855 in under two weeks, enough to meet each goal at least once. This is an exceptional achievement, breaking previous Greenwood fundraising records and demonstrating the extent of students’ generosity.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
