Rolling Out The Green Carpet

The green carpet rolled out on May 15 for Greenwood’s own film fest, the Groscars. Students in Grade 11 and 12 film and advertising classes dressed to impress, having their photos taken on the green carpet before the premiere of their final projects.

The theatre was packed with students and families looking forward to a great show, and the program did not disappoint. Hosts Lauren Anderson and Jake Hawkes-Sackman got the evening off to a rollicking start with their opening video and jokes.

The Grade 11’s documentaries explored a number of different subjects like veganism, game shop culture, hockey, and wood duck conservation. The documentaries captured unique perspectives through interviews with people immersed in their subject of choice, creating interesting deep-dives into their subjects, no matter how well-known or obscure.

A highlight was the surprise mockumentary, which showed a day in the life of an advertising student at Greenwood. The deadpan acting and jokes earned a lot of laughs.

The night ended with the much anticipated sitcom episode of Murder? In My Yard? How Dare You? The show followed a cast of increasingly odd characters, as the two detectives attempted to solve the murder of their beloved Pierre. The program was interspersed with some hilarious commercials.

The hard work of our film and advertising students was clear in the quality of work on display and appreciated by the capacity crowd in the theatre.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
