At the Arts Showcase, parents, students, and staff got the chance to see what Greenwood artists have achieved this year. There was work on display from our youngest students straight through to our graduating class, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, digital art and photography. The music classes, choir, and dance team gave solid performances in the theatre.
Graduating students took over the front hall area, and their portfolios shone in the pop-up gallery spaces. The Learning Commons was filled to the brim with pieces from all grades, and the breakout rooms were transformed into separate gallery spaces.
Starting at 6:30, music and dance classes took place in the theatre with performances from nine different ensembles. Some ensembles combined groups, like the stage band and choir coming together to perform Jackson and Miner’s “Higher and Higher.” The performances were upbeat and kept the energy up throughout the evening.
It was exciting to see the diversity of achievements by our many artists this year.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
