The Greenwood community is always growing, and that is reflected in additions to our teaching staff. This year, we welcomed 9 new teachers and 4 apprentice teachers, including a Greenwood alumna! Callie Bowman (‘09) has returned to Greenwood as an apprentice teacher, working alongside some of the teachers she remembers from her own days as a student.
To make sure all our new teachers get off to a great start, they are all participating in a mentorship program. They are working with experienced Greenwood teachers to build on what they know, learning best practices based on the most current research. Big areas of discussion include co-teaching and strategies for personalizing learning. The mentorship program is a chance for them to develop professionally, and to learn more about their new Greenwood community. Teachers who are returning after an absence and part-time staff are also taking part in the mentorship program, getting acquainted with new teaching and learning developments at Greenwood.
New and returning teachers take what they learn through the mentorship program directly into the classroom, creating an improved learning experience for our students.
To all our new teachers and apprentice teachers, welcome to Greenwood!
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
