Our Grade 11 co-op students celebrated the end of their placement at the Co-Op Fair held in the Lodge at Greenwood on Friday, May 10 .
Students from all grades had the opportunity to visit the booths and learn about the work co-op students had done at their placements over the past year. Some of the co-op students also had their placement instructors come in to show their support and enjoy a morning breakfast together.
Students shared many positive stories. Charlotte Bent ‘20 was fortunate to do her placement at Bedford Park Public School, the same elementary school she attended. She worked as a teaching assistant for one of the teachers she had as a child. “It was really amazing being able to see what it’s like in both positions,” said Charlotte. “I got to go from being a student in the same class to a teaching position.” Overall, Charlotte had an amazing experience at her co-op placement and was very thankful for the opportunity.
Another unique experience was Nadia Bernier’s ‘20 placement at an architect firm called gh3*. Nadia has a passion for drawing and architectural design, so she enjoyed seeing what life was truly like in that field. “It was really great that I got to learn first-hand what life is like in a professional workplace environment,” said Nadia. The work done by gh3* combines modern design with environmental awareness and sustainability. One design Nadia showed off was the Borden Park Natural Swimming Pool in Edmonton, which is the first chemical-free public pool to be built in Canada. Not only did Nadia learn about the field of architecture, she was truly inspired by the unique and innovative designs created by gh3*.
The co-op program at Greenwood is a great real-world opportunity for students to explore various career options. We are always delighted to hear how much of a positive impact it has on our students. Learn more about the program here.
