Throughout the semester, Grade 12 Exercise Science students learned about strength training methods and principles. At the end of the semester, their short culminating activity was to build a training program to help them prepare for the Milton Subaru Triathlon “Try-a-Tri”. They worked individually on the project but also had the opportunity as a class to do some swim training to prepare for the big day.
Sunday, June 2 arrived and it was time to compete in the triathlon. This year, it was a cloudy, chilly morning and the lake was only 62 degrees. The students were brave and embraced the day with smiles on their faces. One of the students competing in the triathlon, Ailis McKeag ‘19, had her mom participate alongside her. It was great to see the mother-daughter duo perform together!
In total, the students swam 375 metres, biked for 10 km and ran for 2.5 km. Every student crossed the finish line and their teacher, Ms. Herod, was extremely proud of them! They all ventured out of their comfort zone and persevered, despite the cold weather and chilly water!
