This year’s Parent Speaker Series is focused on Teens and Caring Communities. On Tuesday, October 15, Greenwood staff members Jennifer Lillie, Kathryn Connelly and Mary Gauthier hosted the first installment of the series and shared with parents where resiliency comes from and how our school and home communities support teens, their well-being and their independence.
Parents who attended this session expressed that they found it helpful and some shared that they appreciated hearing how their role as a parent is so essential to their child’s development of resiliency. Parents also had the opportunity to share ideas for future presentations. One of the ideas a parent shared was to talk more about social media. Luckily, there will be two installments of this series focused on this topic!
On Monday, November 4, social media expert Chris Vollum will host ‘Part 1 on Social Media’ where he will speak about the reality of how it can be a positive communication tool for teens. Chris will be back again on Thursday, January 16, when he will host ‘Part 2 on Social Media’ to teach parents more about it. Part 2 will focus on the apps most popular with teens and ways to navigate through these apps.
