Focusing on Community Wellness

Cooking, pilates, crafts, trivia, outdoor scavenger hunts, improv games and more! Our Wednesdays are looking a little different here at Greenwood...

We introduced “Well-Being Wednesdays” into our weekly schedule for the weeks of April 20, April 27 and May 4.

One of our biggest commitments during these challenging times is to focus on community wellness. Rather than attending classes online on these three Wednesdays, our students have the opportunity to participate in optional activities to connect with their classmates and teachers and focus on their mental health and well-being.

Our first Well-Being Wednesday took place last week and was a huge success. Hundreds of students participated in a variety of live sessions hosted by Greenwood staff including fitness workouts, cooking classes, trivia, games and more. It was a great mix of activities and a wonderful change of pace.

Greenwood also recognizes that maintaining mental health and well-being is an on-going process, and that some students may choose alternative activities to support their wellness. With this in mind, we provided a list of resources that students and staff can access whenever they would like including:
  • Down Dog app - Yoga, Barre and High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
  • P.E. with Joe Wicks - 30-minute home workout
  • Mindfulness Videos and Guided Audio Meditations - for when when you need a moment of peace, to understand your situation more clearly and cope with stressful thoughts and experiences
  • COVID-19 Youth Mental Health Resource Hub - Jack Chapter launched this resource hub in partnership with Kids Help Phone and School Mental Health Ontario. The hub includes tools for people to support themselves, support others, improve their self-care practice, free apps, daily online classes, reliable COVID-19 information and more.
We are now ready to enjoy our second Well-Being Wednesday and hope that everyone can take some time out of their week to focus on their mental health and well-being.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
