Eric McKinnon ‘06 opened his unique art gallery to the public only one short year ago. Broken Cage Gallery isn’t just an ordinary art gallery: it holds live music events, comedy shows, movie nights, yoga sessions and more. The gallery is of course an art gallery first and foremost, but these unique events have helped create a more fun and welcoming place where everyone can enjoy themselves and feel good.
Eric kickstarted his gallery with a few opening exhibitions last fall and was lucky enough to host some VIP events with famous Toronto musicians and athletes, including the Toronto Raptors. Unfortunately, events have been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the art exhibits remain open.
The current exhibition in his gallery is by an artist named STEEP Daniels. Daniel Sidorowicz, a.k.a. STEEP Daniels, is an artist, director, fashion collaborator, and filmmaker whose work can be found in several collections throughout North America and other countries. He has produced and directed international film projects in NYC for cultural icons such as the Wu Tang Clan’s Method Man and Zombie Boy, who appeared in the video for “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga. STEEP Daniels is currently showcasing mixed-media art in Broken Cage Gallery. The exhibition is running until November 15.
Check out Broken Cage Gallery’s website for more information on the gallery and to learn about past exhibitions. The gallery space is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday weekly.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
