Rachael Brownell-Swain, Greenwood’s Coordinator, Service Learning, started in her new role last week.
The goal of the Staff Liaison, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion is to create more opportunities for staff to actively engage in matters of diversity, equity and inclusion, and to support the implementation of best practices in the classroom and beyond.
In this role, Rachael will act as a touchpoint for staff if they need specific support with facilitating challenging conversations related to DEI. She will work with the Director, Academics to support teachers in creating inclusive classrooms, developing critical teaching practices and designing supportive frameworks. In addition, Rachael will create professional development opportunities for students and staff and curate resources for members of our community who want to independently explore topics related to DEI.
Her new role also aligns closely with the significant professional development that she has completed with respect to DEI, including through the master's courses in which she is currently enrolled. Rachael will work closely with Bethany Glick, our Coordinator, Diversity, who will continue to oversee DEI student initiatives and the Diversity Committee. Rachael comes to this position having done similar work for Greenwood in the past, including as it relates to her ongoing role as our Coordinator, Service Learning.
