Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiatives: December 2020
There were many Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives implemented throughout the month of December.
Greenwood’s Diversity Committee led an initiative to end gender-based violence through the White Ribbon Campaign on Monday, December 7. The Greenwood community reflected on this day by watching a video created by Greenwood students about the École Polytechnique massacre and the significance of the White Ribbon Campaign. Students and staff also showed their support by wearing white ribbons.
On December 9, Greenwood parents were invited to attend a Community Conversation session on DEI. This session was presented by Bethany Glick, Coordinator, DEI as well as Rachael Brownell-Swain, Staff Liaison, DEI. Principal Sarah Bruce also attended the session to introduce Bethany and Rachael and answer questions. Bethany and Rachael shared what their team has been learning over the past year and a half with updates and progress on student programs, teacher professional learning, and curriculum development.
During the week of December 14, Greenwood hosted a Holiday Hootenanny Week. Each day on the morning announcements the Diversity Committee and Jewish Culture Club shared slides about how various holidays are celebrated around the world.
On December 14, Bethany and Rachael, as well as Alex Hurley, Director, Outdoor Learning, met with Christine McRae who is the Executive Director of Native-Land Digital. They met to discuss Greenwood’s Land Acknowledgement.
