A Summer Experience with Shad

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
The Shad program offers a month-long experience for Grade 10 and 11 students interested in STEAM and entrepreneurship. Students apply to Shad for the opportunity to live on campus at one of the 18 partner universities across Canada for a month. Part of Shad’s mandate is to offer a transformative experience and challenge students to live out of their comfort zone.

Two Greenwood students were accepted into the Shad program this upcoming summer. Connor Pemberton ‘23 and Sophia Radosevic ‘23 will be a part of interdisciplinary teams to tackle the STEAM4GOOD design challenge. At their respective placement campuses, students will hear from keynote speakers and interact with industry experts in STEAM and entrepreneurship. Connor will attend the University of Calgary, while Sophia will be placed at Laurentian University.

“Getting the chance to reach out and make new friends with a fresh group of people I have never met before makes me impatient for the summer,” says Connor. Both students thank Ms. Branscombe for helping them with their application for the program. Connor and Sophia are both excited for the summer and the adventures that await at their respective universities.

We can’t wait to hear how their summer went!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
