Learning Further Together

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
The Parent/Guardian series will be back this year with more topics that help parents and guardians gain a better understanding of their teens and learn how to approach certain topics with their teenagers. These sessions tie into the areas of focus from Greenwood’s strategic plan and these are great opportunities for the community to expand our learning together.

Last year, we welcomed several experts for this series. Our first session last year was with Dr. Lisa Damour, who spoke about mental well-being and what families can do to alleviate stress and anxiety together. Next, we hosted a two-part series with Demore Barnes and Shauna Barnes on how to approach race and understanding one’s own race story. For the final session of last school year, we welcomed Dr. Elka Walsh, who explored how parents and guardians can unlock their teenagers’ curiosity.

Thank you to all those who responded to our feedback survey with insight, comments and suggestions last spring. Many respondents enjoyed the topics covered and appreciated the timing for the Parent/Guardian Series.

We’re happy to announce that we will continue hosting several sessions this year in person. These sessions are inline with the recommendations parent/guardians made in the survey and will also connect to our strategic plan as we learn further together! Sessions to look forward to include mental health and well being, entrepreneurship and inclusion.

Stay tuned for more details in the weeks to come.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
