Starting Off the Year with OE

Tihmily Li, Communications Officer
Greenwood students got to experience a full Fall OE program earlier this month. Our students ventured forth on many different expeditions.
  • Grade 7s went to Camp Kandalore where they tried out a variety of camp activities
  • Grade 8s explored a wide range of activities at Camp Tamakwa
  • Grade 9s spent time at Kilcoo Camp which included the traditional swamp walk
  • Grade 10s either partook in canoeing trips or a wilderness first aid course in Algonquin Park
  • Grade 11s travelled to British Columbia for a full seven-day journey, having chosen one of three options: sea kayaking, hiking or regional geography
  • Select Grade 12s were camp leaders with Grade 7s, 8s and 9s while other Grade 12s obtained their white water canoe certification at the Madawaska Kanu Centre
Students showed excitement and perseverance at each camp or expedition through rain or shine. We’re very glad that our full Fall OE programming is back. Outdoor education is a great way to kick off the school year, helping to grow each student’s confidence in their abilities and build peer relationships.

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
