Get to Know the 2025-2026 Heads of Student Leadership

Life @ Greenwood caught up with our 2025-2026 Heads of Student Leadership Alice Celik ‘25 and Mason Kohler ‘25 to learn more about their hopes for this year and what they love about Greenwood.

1. What made you want to run for Head of Student Leadership?

Alice: Coming into Greenwood I never could have imagined I would end up here in a role I value so much and am honored to carry. The students and staff who make up the Greenwood community are and will certainly always be an integral part of my identity. Knowing this, I promised myself I would give back to my community and the role of Head of Student Leadership allowed me to do this through something I was already passionate about. I want to make every student and staff at Greenwood know that they belong and are capable of demonstrating their own leadership.

Mason: Looking back, many of the mentors who shaped me most at Greenwood were Heads of Student Leadership. It’s rare to find a role that can shape the school on such a broad level while still having a personal impact on individual students. I’ve always looked up to them, admired the way they made me feel seen, and wanted to be that same support for younger students.

2. What do you love about Greenwood?

Mason: The freedom that it gives you to explore and share your interests with the community. Interested in Rubik's cubing or fermentation? There’s a club for that (yes, really). And if not, it’s one proposal away. The openness to get involved, try new things and leave your mark is what makes the school so unique.

Alice: Honestly, I could list more than 10 things that I adore about Greenwood, but for everyone's sake I will mention how amazing the student-teacher connections are at Greenwood. This school is filled to the brim with educators that are so enthusiastic, smart, and passionate about what they do and it is whole heartedly reflected in the classroom.

3. What are one or two things you hope to achieve this year as a student leader?

Mason: It’s been my top goal to learn the names of every new student this year. Although it may seem small, simply greeting someone with their name and a smile in the halls can have one of the biggest impacts in making someone feel like they belong.

Alice: My top goal for this role has always been to make it a memorable year for as many people as I can. This means ensuring all students and staff feel welcomed, comfortable, and most importantly... that they have fun!

4. Do you have any advice for new Greenwood students who are looking to get involved at school?

Mason: Don’t wait! If a club seems interesting, check it out, even if it’s only for one session. Joining a club or committee, especially in the early months, can be a huge help in making those early connections.

Alice: My biggest advice would be to step out of your comfort zone. Even after being elected, there are still times where I doubt myself and feel nervous. It is extremely natural, however, it allows me to grow as a leader and a person. If you are looking into getting involved in the school but you don't know where to start, just start small. Join a club, committee, and if you are up for the challenge, run for leadership roles! I promise it's a ton of fun.

5. Tell us something interesting about yourself that you'd like to share!

Alice: I think the most interesting thing I can share about myself is my school journey so far. I've attended school in 4 different countries since I was an infant and what I can say is that all countries have a different education system filled with different teachers, and different students. Through this journey, I'm so incredibly grateful I've ended up here at Greenwood as there is truly no other school that compares.

Mason: I’m the drummer for our 8-person family jazz-band, the “Tan-Clan-Fam-Jam”!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
