Greenwood Staff & Students Get Haircuts for Terry Fox

Kate Raven
Five Greenwood staff members and one Greenwood student said farewell to their hair in the name of fundraising for Terry Fox on October 12.

In exchange for reaching the school’s fundraising goal of $10,000, Mr. Jennings, Mr. Nichols, and David “Lub” Latimer volunteered to allow Greenwood’s top fundraisers to shave their heads. Ms. McBeth, Ms. DiFilippo, and student JJ Toole also agreed to donate their ponytails to Beautiful Lengths, a charity that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. Again, top student fundraisers wielded the scissors, with the generous volunteer help of Amber of The Manor Salon. The haircuts took place at a school-wide event in the Lodge on the afternoon of October 12.

We’d again like to thank Greenwood students, families and friends for their support for our fundraising efforts and participation. We’re already looking forward to next year’s run!

We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
