After arriving in Halifax on November 22, Jamie and Kathryn immediately headed to Wolfeville, NS, to visit 6 GCS alumni at Acadia University: Victoria Wearing, Layla Zolis, Emily Burkhart, Sara Morris, and Sam Howard from the class of 2011; and Ryan Galligan from the class of 2008. After a wonderful lunch, the group headed to Sara, Victoria, and Layla’s residence suite for a visit.
Jamie and Kathryn then returned to Halifax to meet almost 30 alumni (and current Dalhousie University students) at the Old Triangle pub for dinner and drinks. The evening had a great turnout from many graduating classes, from Emily Green (’08) to Ben Abbott, Doug Topping, Emma Toyne and others from our most recent graduating class.
Jamie and Kathryn enjoyed the chance to reconnect with our alumni in person, and they were glad to see that our grads are working hard and enjoying their time in Nova Scotia.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
