Greenwood students recently participated in three math contests held by the University of Waterloo: the Pascal (Grade 9), Cayley (Grade 10), and Fermat (Grade 11) contests. Named for famous mathematicians, these challenging contests are an opportunity for students to have fun and to develop their mathematical problem solving ability.
The Greenwood student who receives the highest score at the school in this contest each year receives a medal, while any students placing in the top 25% of students writing the contest across Canada receives a certificate. This year, the following students were recognized:
Jacob Denyes (Grade 9), who earned the top Greenwood score on the Pascal Contest
Shaelyn Laurie (Grade 10), who earned the top Greenwood score on the Cayley Contest, which placed her in the top 25% in Canada
Laura Halliday (Grade 11), who earned the top Greenwood score on the Fermat Contest
Congratulations to Jacob, Shaelyn, and Laura, and to all of our math contest writers.
Congratulations to Shaelyn Laurie ('15), Jacob Denyes ('16), and Laura Halliday (absent) for their performance on the University of Waterloo's math contests.
We acknowledge with gratitude the Ancestral lands upon which our main campus is situated. These lands are the Ancestral territories of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Anishinabek and the Wendake. The shared responsibility of this land is honoured in the Dish with One Spoon Treaty and we strive to care for the land, the waters, and all creatures in the spirit of peace. We are responsible for respecting and supporting the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. When away from this campus we vow to be respectful to the land by protecting and honouring it. We will create relationships with the people and the land we may visit by understanding the territories we enter and the nations who inhabit them.
